Lightning strikes kill farmer, fisher in Pangasinan


NATIVIDAD/BOLINAO, Pangasinan – Two separate lightning strikes killed a farmer and a fisherman in Natividad and Bolinao, this province, Saturday, July 30.

The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office identified the victims as Dionisio Domondon, 41, farmer, of Barangay San Eugenio, Natividad, and Truly Labio, 57, fisherman, of Barangay Balingasay, Bolinao.

Natividad police said that Domondon was transplanting rice seedlings when lightning hit him at about 4:55 p.m.

Domondon was taken to the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital (EPDH) in Tayug, this province, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Labio went fishing using a bamboo raft before dawn Saturday but failed to return home.

Hours later, two fishermen found his body floating lifeless near his bamboo raft in the coastal area of Barangay Arnedo, Bolinao.

Post-mortem examination conducted by Dr. Pangilalo del Fierro Jr., municipal health officer of Bolinao, confirmed that the victim sustained lightning injuries.
