Floods displace 102 families in Antique

ILOILO CITY – Floods caused by heavy rains from tropical depressions “Ester” displaced at least 102 families in Antique.

The Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that rising waters displaced families Saturday, July 30, in Hamtic, Sibalom, and the provincial capital of San Jose de Buenavista.

The evacuated families are from Barangay Piapi I in Hamtic; Barangays Catungan 1 and 2 in Sibalom; and Barangay Catungan-Bugarot in San Jose de Buenavista.

They are currently staying in evacuation centers as well as friends and family.

The Antique Public Information Office reported that there were also other areas in the three towns that were flooded but there were no specific number of people being evacuated.

“Both Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) are currently conducting ongoing assessment of affected families,” the Antique PIO reported.

The Antique PDRRMO advised residents living near mountain slopes and river systems to take precautionary measures to protect life and property.
