House names more deputy, assistant majority leaders


Majority Leader Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe has nominated more House members to the positions of deputy majority leader and assistant majority leader.

Dalipe announced the nominees for the posts before the plenary during day three of the first regular session on Wednesday, July 28.

The new deputy najority leaders are:

Zamboanga Sibugay 1st district Rep. Wilter Palma

Iloilo 3rd district Rep. Lorenz Defensor

MARINO Party-list Rep. Carlo Gonzales

TGP Party-list Rep. Jose Teves Jr.

Iloilo City lone district Rep. Julienne Baronda

Meanwhile, these are the assistant majority leaders:

Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Adiong

Cavite 3rd district Rep. Adrian Advincula

Zambales 1st district Rep. Jefferson Khonghun

Oriental Mindoro 1st district Rep. Arnan Panaligan

North Cotabato 3rd district Rep. Maria Santos

Nueva Ecija 1st district Rep. Mikaela Suansing

Marikina City 1st district Rep. Marjorie Teodoro

PBA Party-list Rep. Margarita Nograles

AGIMAT Party-list Rep. Bryan Revilla

Cavite 8th district Rep. Aniela Tolentino

Previously, presidential son and Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos was elected to serve as senior deputy majority leader under Dalipe, alongside the first batch of nominees to the Committee on Rules.

Within the powerful rules panel, the majority leader acts as chairman while the deputy majority leaders act as vice chairmen. The assistant majority leaders, the minority leader, and minority bloc officers serve as members of the committee.

As per the House of Representatives’ website, this panel handles the following: “Rules of the House, rules of procedure governing inquiries in aid of legislation, rules of procedure in impeachment proceedings, order of business, calendar of business, the referral of bills, resolutions, speeches, committee reports, messages, memorials and petitions, and the creation of committees and their jurisdiction.”
