Funding Marcos' plan to build specialty hospitals possible, says Angara

Senator Sonny Angara, chairman of Senate Committee on Finance, is confident that the Marcos administration can deliver its promise to build more specialty hospitals across the country.

Amid economic challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, the government can still make it happen. According to Angara, the Department of Health (DOH) can get funding from the Health Facilities Enhancement Fund amounting to at least P10 billion.

"So, there's really a matter of handling very focused spending and very focused goals rather than scattering it all over the place. Maybe a specific goal in mind, then try to meet that over the next six years," Angara said Thursday in an interview with ANC.

Meanwhile, in terms of materializing the e-Health System and Services and the Dialysis Center Acts, some local government units (LGUs) can already do that as they "are already capable of funding this."

"Some of our LGUs can already focus on that. So, we have to identify who are not capable or who a hard time funding these and there's where the national government can look to supplement some of the health spending," he added.
