Makati LGU begins inspection of buildings, schools after major earthquake

The Makati City local government on Wednesday, July 27, has ordered a quick and comprehensive damage and structural assessment of all its public buildings and schools following the 7.3 magnitude quake that hit Abra and parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

In a set of photos posted on its official Facebook page, the local government can be seen conducting head counts and first-aid on the evacuated employees of the city government as well as deploying its disaster response personnel to check on the buildings and facilities of the city government.

"Mayor Abby has ordered the city’s Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) to inspect and check the structural integrity of public buildings and schools after a strong quake was felt in some parts of Luzon on Wednesday morning," the local government said.

"The Makati Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) has also set up its Incident Command Post to manage the deployment of inspectors and incident responders to areas that need attention," it added.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the 7.3 magnitude earthquake was felt in parts of Luzon, as well as in Metro Manila, at 8:43 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27.

As per Phivolcs, the earthquake's epicenter was located northeast of Lagangilang, Abra.

The agency said that the following intensities were reported following the earthquake:

Intensity VII - Bucloc and Manabo, Abra

Intensity VI - Vigan City, Sinait, Bantay, San Esteban, Ilocos Sur; Laoac, Pangasinan; Baguio City;

Intensity V - Magsingal and San Juan, Ilocos Sur, Alaminos City and Labrador, Pangasinan; Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya; Mexico, Pampanga; Concepcion, and Tarlac City, Tarlac; City of Manila; City of Malabon

Intensity IV - City of Marikina; Quezon City; City of Pasig; City of Valenzuela; City of Tabuk, Kalinga; Bautista and Malasiqui, Pangasinan; Bayombong and Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya; Guiguinto, Obando, and San Rafael, Bulacan; San Mateo, Rizal

Intensity III - Bolinao, Pangasinan; Bulakan, Bulacan; Tanay, Rizal

Intensity II - General Trias City, Cavite; Santa Rosa City, Laguna
