DepEd Spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa noted the “victory” of the department after recording a high number of enrollees on the first day of the enrollment period for the upcoming academic year.

“Matagumpay ang ng enrollment. Maganda ang ating turnout, actually as of 7:35 last night, nasa 2.8 million na po ang nag enroll sa ating mga learners, mas maganda po ito kesa sa turnout last year dahil last year around 200,000 lang po ang nag enroll noong first day (The first day of enrollment was successful. Our turnout is good, actually as of 7:35 last night, 2.8 million of our learners have enrolled. This is better than last year’s turnout because last year, only around 200,000 have enrolled on the first day),” said Poa in an interview over DZMM Teleradyo on Tuesday morning, July 26.

This, according to Poa, is about 10 percent of the target enrollment rate of 28.6 million.

Under DepEd Memo No. 035, the enrollment period will end on Aug. 22, 2022. Unlike the previous academic year, the department, for sy 2022-2023, introduced three enrollment methods namely in-person enrollment, remote enrollment, and dropbox enrollment.

Of these enrollment procedures, the majority of those who enrolled on July 25 opted to use the in-person method of enrollment. DepEd, on the other hand, advised the public to continue adhering to minimum public health standards such as, but not limited to, wearing of masks and maintaining physical distancing when availing the face-to-face method of enrollment.

Classes for SY 2022-2023 will begin on Aug. 22, 2022.
