Army Black Mamba downed Chery Tiggo, 25-20, 25-23, 25-22, Tuesday to enhance its semifinal bid in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
Jovelyn Gonzaga paced with 15 points including 12 spikes while setter Ivy Perez did the rest with 18 excellent sets while contributing six hits including a pair of service aces that lifted the Lady Troopers to No. 4 with a 3-2 slate.
It also sent Army a win away from making the semis assuming it could pull the rug from under Open Conference champion Creamline Thursday.
The Lady Troopers could also make it through outright if the Choco Mucho Titans, the only other team remaining who are still in the race with a 1-3 card, ended up losing one of their last two games.
Choco Mucho clashes with PLDT Thursday and Petro Gazz Saturday at the same venue.
The Crossovers, in contrast, fell to 1-4 and out of the semis hunt.
Army coach Kungfu Reyes also made his return after missing his team’s last two outings.
Army also drew strength from their veteran players in Ging Balse-Pabayo, Nene Bautista and Joanne Bunag, who combined for 13 points.
