Marcos 'saddened and shocked' over Ateneo shooting, vows swift probe


President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said a thorough and swift investigation will be carried out over the shooting incident that killed two persons and wounded four more Sunday, July 24, in Quezon City.

Following the shooting incident that took place inside the campus of Ateneo De Manila University on Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City, the President conveyed his sympathy to the families of the victims and vowed justice will be served.

"We are shocked and saddened by the events at the Ateneo graduation today. We mourn with the bereaved, the wounded, and those whose scars from this experience will run deep," Marcos said.

"We commit our law enforcement agencies to thoroughly and swiftly investigate these killings and bring all involved to justice," he added. "Our prayers go to the graduates, their families, the Ateneo community, and to the residents of Quezon City and Basilan."

Police said the shooting incident happened during the graduation ceremony of the Ateneo Law School at the Areté complex inside Ateneo campus.

A former mayor in Lamitan City, Basilan and a security personnel died from the incident while four others were injured, according to police.

Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, who was supposed to be the guest speaker at the graduation rites, was unharmed, Supreme Court spokesman Brian Keith Hosaka said.

The suspect was already taken under police custody.
