Killed was Vincent Decena, 54, who went Absence Without Official Leave (AWOL) and was later dismissed from the service, according to Police Major Anthony Grande, Cauayan police chief.

Grande said the victim was having coffee with three companions when the suspects arrived, approached Decena, and shot him from behind.

The gunmen left on board a silver gray van according to witnesses, Grande said.

Police recovered from the crime scene fired bullets and slugs of a .45 caliber pistol.

Grande said they are exploring all angles in the incident, including drug-related, since the victim was listed as a street level individual in the town. The victim had a pending case for illegal drugs, he added.
