American, lover face charges over murder of foreigner’s wife

PARRICIDE charges have been filed against an American over the murder of his Filipina wife in Negros Oriental.
BACOLOD CITY – Police filed Thursday, July 21, charges of parricide and murder against an American and his new lover for the death of his wife in Valencia, Negros Oriental Tuesday this week.

Charged with parricide was 55-year-old Daniel Lawrence Glazier, husband of nurse Maribel, 32, of Barangay Junob, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, who was found buried in a shallow grave in their property in Barangay Palinpinon, Valencia, Tuesday, July 19, Police Major Roger Quijano, Valencia police chief, said.

Maribel’s body was found after her friends reported her missing to the police since Sunday when they could not reach her. Her friends looked for her in places where the victim frequently go and found her decomposing body in Valencia.

Police believed that Maribel was hit by a hard object that caused her death.

A day after the discovery of Maribel’s body, Daniel surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Wednesday, July 20, making police consider him a suspect and a person of interest at that time.

Aside from Daniel, Quijano said that the suspect’s new lover, whose name was withheld by the police for the meantime, was charged for murder as she could also be considered a principal by direct participation.

Prior to her murder, Quijano said the victim left a letter to her friends stating that if something happens to her, they should look for a certain person, referring to her husband.

Quijano also said that the victim’s helper who was supposed to return to work Sunday, July 17, was reportedly told by the foreigner not to report as his wife had left for Davao.

Police had earlier said they are looking into property dispute or love triangle as possible motives in the incident since Daniel allegedly has a new lover.

The suspects did not make any confession during interrogation, according to Quijano.

Despite this, Quijano said they filed the cases after gathering evidence and statements from witnesses linking the duo to the crime.

“It’s up to the fiscal to appreciate the case or the complaint, what is important is that we have identified them and filed the case,” Quijano said.

Quijano said Daniel will be subject for release from custody after it was not established when the victim killed.

The foreigner’s camp also requested a preliminary investigation. They were given 10 days, the Valencia police chief added.

Quijano said they applied for a search warrant on Daniel's car Friday, July 22, to check if they could gather other evidence that could help them in the investigation.

The couple has two daughters aged seven and 10 and are under the custody of the victim’s sister.

Daniel has yet to be reached for comment.
