Robredo's Bayanihan e-Konsulta is back! Over 1k volunteers join fold

Former vice president Leni Robredo has announced the revival of her Angat Buhay’s free telemedicine program, Bayanihan e-Konsulta, amid the rising Covid-19 infections in the country.

Her team is looking for medical and non-medical volunteers to run the teleconsultation service once it becomes operational.

“Dahil sa pagdami na naman ng Covid cases dito sa atin, magbubukas pong muli ang Bayanihan e-Konsulta (Because of the increase in Covid cases here, the Bayanihan e-Konsulta will reopen),” Robredo, a lawyer, said in a Facebook post on Wednesday night.

Robredo spearheaded the initiative in the Office of the Vice President (OVP) under the previous Duterte administration to help decongest hospitals at a time Metro Manila had a surge in Covid-19 cases last year.

This program not only assisted the public through telemedicine consultations but also sent Covid care kits to patients and helped find oxygen tanks and hospital beds for those with severe illnesses.

Bayanihan e-Konsulta stopped its operations last May 31, with more than 58,000 Covid and non-Covid patients assisted through its one-year run.

In the same post, the former vice president said they require at least 40 medical and 50 non-medical volunteers to prepare for the reopening.

“Maaaring madagdagan sa susunod na mga araw depende sa bilang ng request para sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng ating operasyon (The number of needed volunteers may increase in the coming days depending on the volume of requests for the different part of our operations),” she wrote.

She then reminded the interested volunteers that the work set-up for the Bayanihan e-Konsulta services is remote or work-from-home.

In a later Twitter post, Robredo said there were 1,100 who had already signed up within 20 minutes after making the announcement.

“Thank you,” she tweeted with a praying emoji.

“The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well,” Robredo also said.
