Sandro takes action vs Ilocos Norte's soaring power rates

Presidential son and Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos refused to stand idle as his constituents continued to bear the brunt of costly electricity.

That's why, when Marcos had the opportunity to talk to an Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) official about it, he grabbed the opportunity.

"Successful meeting with Comm. Alexis M. Lumbatan of the ERC regarding the complaints of my constituency about the high power rates in Ilocos Norte," Marcos wrote on his Facebook on Tuesday, July 19.

The post came with a photo of him and Lumbatan, who is one of the four commissioners of the regulatory body.

Marcos then shared to his followers the good news that came out from the meeting, which appeared to have taken place at the House of Representatives.

"The ERC committed that it will look into the cause of soaring electricity rates by reviewing the power supply contracts entered into by INEC (Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative). The ERC will likewise determine whether there have been over-contracting of capacity by INEC for its franchise area which may also lead to an increase of rates, among others."

"As our Gov Matthew Marcos Manotoc said to our kakailian (northern folk), as the renewable capital of the world you all deserve better. Rest assured we will continue work tirelessly to find solutions for Ilocos Norte " added the 28-year-old solon.

Marcos is a neophyte member of the House of Representatives in the 19th Congress.
