BACOLOD CITY – The mayor of Pulupandan, Negros Occidental resigned from his post effective Wednesday, July 20, for health reasons.

Mayor Lorenzo Eduardo Mario Antonio Suatengco sent his irrevocable resignation to Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson that day. He stated in the letter his decision to vacate his position due to unforeseen health reasons which will, according to him, affect his capacity to carry out the responsibilities as the local chief executive.

Suatengco assured Lacson that despite his resignation from office, all programs and projects they have planned for the town will be continued by his successor Vice Mayor Miguel Antonio Peña.

In response, Lacson stated in a letter that he accepted Suatengco’s resignation effective immediately.

Following this, Lacson administered the oath of Peña and Councilor Anthony Gerard Suatengco, the No. 1 councilor, as mayor and vice mayor of the town, respectively.

Peña served as mayor for three terms. He is the son of former Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Peña, a former mayor of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.

Lorenzo's father, Antonio Suatengco, and Peña ran unopposed in Pulupandan in the recent elections, but Antonio died due to health reasons, thus Lorenzo substituted his father and won the mayoral race.
