Pro-athlete solon sees world-beaters in Filipinas

Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Party-list Rep. Margarita Nograles believes that she sees the makings of a true world-beater in the Philippine national women's football team--also known as the "Filipinas".

This, after the Filipinas drubbed their Thai counterparts in the finals of the AFF Women’s Championship on a rainy Sunday night, July 17. It was the national team's first AFF crown.

"Congratulations to our women’s national football team, the Malditas, for a historic and exciting win in the AAF Women’s Championship," said Nograles, a neophyte lawmaker in the 19th Congress.

"Your victory brings us so much pride as we finally see the beginnings of a truly world-class football team," she said of the newly-crowned champs.

"With your hard work, dedication, and seamless teamwork, you were able to beat Thailand 3-0 to end their domination in Southeast Asia’s women’s football," noted the solon, whose nickname is "Atty. Migs".

"Just stay the course and work even harder so that we may one day have the Malditas playing at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Congratulations Malditas!" Nograles further said.

The Philippine national women's football team is currently ranked 53 in the world--a ranking that could improve with their AFF conquest.

The heroine of the Filipinas' campaign is arguably Sarina Bolden, who scored eight goals in seven matches during the tournament.
