The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) deployed its Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) team to assist individuals affected by floods in Quezon City and nearby areas brought by torrential rains over the weekend.

In a statement released on Monday, July 18, PRC said that among the flood-stricken areas were Barangay Tatalon, Maria Clara Araneta Ave., Barangay Santo Domingo, and Barangay Damayang Lagi.

Six PRC WASAR personnel, in coordination with Quezon City and Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the Quezon City Emergency Medical Services, monitored the said areas to check if anyone needed assistance.

“Laging handa ang Red Cross sa pagsaklolo sa ating mga kababayan sa panahon ng tag-ulan. Nakahanda ang ating kagamitan, gayundin, ang ating volunteers at staff (Red Cross is always ready to help our countrymen during rainy season. Our equipment, volunteers, and staff are on stand-by),” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon said.

Heavy rainfall was also experienced in Makati City, Mandaluyong City, Caloocan City, Marikina City, and Rizal Province.

The humanitarian organization reminded the public to follow safety measures as the rainy season is considered a high-risk period for diseases such as influenza, leptospirosis, and dengue.
