Shortly after the Filipinas clinched their first-ever AFF Women’s Championship crown on Sunday night, July 17, Marcos sent his congratulations to the team.

"Congratulations on this historic victory!" the President said in a Facebook post.

Prior to the championship game, where the Filipinas faced Thailand, Marcos also conveyed his support to the national team and wished them good luck.

“Allow me to just send my best and strongest and most fervent good luck wishes to our women’s football team who have managed to reach the finals and are now vying for the championship of the Asean Football Federation Finals,” the President said in a video message.

”Ako at ang buong Pilipinas ay nasa likod ninyo (The entire Philippines and I are behind you). And we will be watching and waiting for the good result for which we will be congratulating you for. Good luck to you and I am sure you will do very well,”he added.

The Filipinas captured the AFF title after scoring 3-0 in front of a crowd of 8,257 spectators at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The victory marked the Philippines’ first international title in the football scene and also saw a huge improvement from its fourth-place finish in the 2019 edition held in Chonburi, Thailand.
