The Diocese of San Pablo in Laguna has partnered with the Catholic Church’s Pondo ng Pinoy to send poor but deserving students to school.
Bro. Greg Mendez of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of San Pablo said many underprivileged students in their diocese have benefitted from the assistance provided by Pondo ng Pinoy .
The Diocese of San Pablo had been assisting poor but deserving students for the past 10 years in Liliw, Laguna. It initially started with 32 scholars that increased over the years to the current number of 100 scholars .
“We call the project ‘Batang Patio’ where we provide educational assistance to poor students whose families do not have a regular income through the assistance of Pondo ng Pinoy,” said Bro. Mendez
“Our scholars come from indigent families, low income families who do not have a regular source of income. We also provide assistance to orphans and to children of farmers and construction workers,” he added.
Founded in 2004 by Manila Archbishop Emeritus His Eminence Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, Pondo ng Pinoy continues its mission of proclaiming “Christ as the good news to the poor, encouraging the faithful to live the life of humble stewardship of whatever gifts the Lord has given as preferential love for the poor, through little but regular acts of goodness exemplified by the 'crumbs' as little as 25 centavo coins," said the Archdiocese of Manila.
