BOC releases accomplishments amid agri-smuggling allegations
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) collected more than P3.4 trillion revenues and seized P95.6 billion worth of smuggled goods since 2016, the agency reported during its meeting with stakeholders to present its accomplishments.
The presentation of BOC accomplishments came amid allegations of the involvement of some ranking officials of the agency to smuggling of agriculture products which have been affecting local farmers.
BOC officials who were included in the Senate list, however, vehemently denied the allegation.
BOC Spokesperson and Assistant Commissioner Vincent Philip C. Maronilla said the agency’s accomplishments when it comes to generating revenue from July 2016 to June 2022 was 80.94 percent increase compared to the past administration.
“In addition, the BOC also successfully collected additional lawful revenues amounting to P5.9 billion from 2018 to 2022 under the post-clearance audit of importers, P434.3 billion from 2019 to 2022 under the Fuel Marking Program, and P3.5 billion from 2016 to 2022 under the public auctions of forfeited goods,” said Maronilla.
Aside from over P95 billion seized smuggled goods, Maronilla said the agency also seized P17 billion worth of illegal drugs from 2016 to 2022.
A total of P24 billion worth of forfeited goods were also condemned under the same timeline, according to Maronilla.
