DAR turns over livelihood facilities to Cotabato farmers

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has turned over livelihood support facilities to farmers in the province of Cotabato in a bid to improve their living condition. 

According to the agency, the Sitio New Alimodian Peace Zone Multi-purpose Cooperative (SNAPZ-MPC) in Banayal, Tulunan received a P450,000 worth common service facility and production inputs for their peanut and corn industry.

Also, the Cadiis Farmers’ Association, from Barangay Cadiis, Carmen, got P450,000 worth of support services composed of one-unit corn sheller, four-units collapsible dryers, 10 bags of organic compost, corn seeds, and capacity development training.

Charish Paña, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II, such facilities were provided to farmers to help their farm productivity and net income.

She told the agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs): "We hope that you will do your best to take good care of what DAR has provided you. May these facilities inspire you to work harder to improve the quality of your living.”

The agrarian reform department noted that the support services projects were provided through Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project (CRFPSP)-Sustainable Livelihood Support.

"DAR will continue to monitor this project and we expect that the ARBs will fulfill their responsibilities as stated in the trust agreement we have established,” CRFPSP Regional Pointperson Maria Cecilia Machan said.

She said the projects are expected to help address food security amidst climate change by providing livelihood support in the form of farm machines and equipment, farm inputs, and capacity development interventions.
