Danao backs revival of death penalty for big-time drug traffickers

Police Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr., officer-in-charge of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has expressed support on the move to revive the death penalty for drug traffickers.

The death penalty for illegal drugs traffickers is being pushed by former PNP chief and now Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.

“I think it’s really high time to bring back death penalty especially on the aspect of illegal drugs,” said Danao.

He explained that illegal drugs have destroyed a lot of lives and families due to the addiction of some people, adding that those addicted to illegal drugs would become a burden to a family.

Illegal drugs are also pointed as the reason of increase in crime volume as those who would be addicted would engage in criminal activities in order to sustain their addiction.

In some cases, those who are addicted to drugs would engage in heinous crimes that include rape and multiple murder.

“We welcome that (revival of death penalty). We know the ill-effects of illegal drugs and for those who would be caught with so many kilos of drugs, I think it’s time to bring back the death penalty,” said Danao.
