SM Makati Covid-19 vaxx site to close; LGU urges residents to get vaccinated, boosted
The Makati City local government urged its residents and the public to get vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19 as the country is once again seeing an uptick in the number of cases brought about by the entry of the more transmissible Omicron subvariants and loosened restrictions due to the National Capital Region's (NCR) Alert Level 1 status.
The local government made the appeal as it announced on Facebook the closure of one of its Bakuna Makati sites located at SM Makati on July 30.
It clarified that despite the closure of the SM Makati vaccination site on July 30, other Bakuna Makati vaccination sites are still operational and ready to vaccinate the populace.
On February 28, the city government announced that it is now closing vaccination sites in schools and transferring them to barangay health centers.
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said the decision to close down the vaccination sites in schools was made as the city prepares for face-to-face classes under the new normal.
Binay said schools must be properly prepared and modified to adhere to the public health and safety protocols and ensure the safety of students and faculty members once face-to-face classes commence.
She added that the city government continues to boost the inoculation capacity of barangay health centers due to the city's high vaccination rate. Transferring the vaccination sites to barangay health centers will also help those who are incapable of traveling to other Bakuna Makati sites such as senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD).
A total of 506,404 individuals have received their first dose of the vaccine while 530,318 have been fully vaccinated in the city as of July 13.
As of July 14, the Makati Health Department (MHD) has recorded 246 active cases in the city. It also tallied 54,270 recoveries and 1,023 deaths.
