The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be implementing a six-day gun ban in Metro Manila as part of the security measures for the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.
PNP officer-in-charge Police Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr. said he approved the recommendation to implement the suspension of the Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR) from July 22 to 27.
Marcos’ SONA will be on July 25 at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
“Just like what we did in the inauguration wherein we implemented a gun ban three days before and two days after the actual date so we will do it,” said Danao.
The PNP also suspended the PTCFOR in the National Capital Region (NCR) for six days during the inauguration of Marcos. At least nine violators were arrested.
At least 15,000 policemen, soldiers and force multipliers from various government agencies will be tapped to secure the SONA.
Part of the security preparations are traffic rerouting and designation of freedom parks for the protesters.
