Make sure gov't enemies wouldn't get your guns, ammo, Danao tells dealers during gun show
Right during the gun show ceremony where he was a special guest, Police Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr., officer-in-charge of the Philippine National Police (PNP), reminded gun dealers of their responsibility to ensure that the products they sell would not end up at the hands of the enemies of the government.
In his speech , Danao said there were three gun dealers which appeared in the intelligence information that were believed to be the source of the firearms and ammunition of those who laid siege in Marawi City.
“I will just not name those gun dealers and ammunition dealers but I can still remember in 2017 when all of us were shocked because our soldiers were already running out of bullets after three weeks, yet, our enemies still had enough when it was already almost six months of the gun battle,” said Danao.
He said he was then at the counter-intelligence unit of the PNP’s Directorate for Operations.
“When I searched further, there were at least three gun dealers who were there,” said Danao.
“I am not accusing anyone ha. It’s just that during that time, there were three gun and ammunition dealers at that place so hopefully this would not happen again,” he added.
He then advised gun dealers to make sure that they stick with their responsibility.
“I would just like to remind our gun dealers of the responsibility of our gun dealers to please have this responsibility of just allowing our gun holders and allowing those who are authorized to really bear firearms and ammunition,” De Leon emphasized.
Danao and former PNP chief and now Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa were the special guests during the opening ceremony of the 28th Defense and Sporting Arms Show on Thursday, July 14, at the Megatrade Hall of the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.
