Natural attractions in Tanay, Rizal continues to charm local tourists
By Nel Andrade
Rivers and streams with refreshing clear waters flowing from the mountains in Tanay, Rizal continue to attract budget-conscious travelers even during this rainy season.
In the upland portion of Barangay Tandang Kutyo, particularly at Sitio Rawang, lies several resorts and picnic grounds with streams and rivers that are safe for kids and adults alike.
This writer was able to talk to some visitors who made their way to the place called Pupot Bukal during the weekend, using their mountain bikes.
The bikers said it was their first time to reach the place which they found as a relaxing spot where one can take a dip or swim in the relatively cold water of the stream.
Picnic huts, which can be rented for P400 for a whole-day stay, are located on the shallow portion of the stream.
A small cave can be found at the other end of the stream which is perfect for picture taking.
Several black-winged dragon flies, flying and hovering all over the place, can be spotted during good weather.
Small gray-colored fishes can also be seen in some corners of the stream, especially near the boulders.
Another group of local tourists told Manila Bulletin that they found the place much cheaper compared to the place called Paglitaw, which is also located a few hundred meters away from Pupot Bukal.
One can reach the stream by taking some 15 to 20 minutes of walking from a parking area located inside the Angeles farm. Travelers can access the farm and stream by entering the road that points to Daranak Falls.
A P30 entrance fee for adults and a minimal fee for a four-wheel vehicle can be paid at the parking area before tourists are allowed entry into the private day-tour only natural attraction.
Visitors are advised to bring their food, water and packed lunch as there are no restaurants in the area.
Trekking downhill can be challenging, especially after a rain as the route tends to be very slippery.
