Catbalogan City fire: 17 houses gutted, 22 families affected
TACLOBAN CITY -- At least 17 houses were razed by a fire that hit a residential area in Patag, Catbalogan City, Samar Tuesday (July 12).
Initial reports had it that 12 houses were totally charred, while five others were partially burned in a fire that reached the third alarm.
The fire was allegedly ignited by a faulty electrical line.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) received the fire call around 8:16 a.m.
The fire quickly spread from house to house.
The fire was declared under control after an hour and was eventually declared fire-out at around 9:35 a.m.
BFP reported no casualties during the incident while the cost of the damage was estimated at P1 million.
A total of 22 families were affected by the fire.
According to city Mayor Dexter Uy, 12 families will receive P20,000 cash assistance, and two other families will receive P10,000 each.
Six families whose houses were partially damaged will also receive P10,000, and two family sharers with partially damaged houses will be given P5,000 each.
