4.7-magnitude quake hits Davao Occidental province

BUTUAN CITY – A 4.7-magnitude earthquake hit Davao Occidental province in Southern Mindanao region Tuesday afternoon, July 12, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake was recorded at 12:54 p.m.

The epicenter was plotted 331 kilometers southeast of Balut Island (Municipality of Sarangani), Davao Occidental province.

The tremor had a depth of only 181 kms, Phivolcs said.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and the state agency is expecting no aftershocks.

The Southern Mindanao Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and Davao Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) there reported no damage or injury.
