Personnel at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa arrested a female visitor after she tried to smuggle in P2.38 million worth of suspected shabu on Sunday, July 10.
Southern Police District (SPD) director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg identified the suspect as Raquel Zuñiga, 33, a resident of Tatalon, Quezon City.
Zuñiga was caught by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Inmate Visitation Service Unit (IVSU) at about 1 p.m. at the frisking area of inmate visitation at Gate 4 of the NBP Maximum Security Compound.
The suspect allegedly tried to bring in four plastic bags of suspected shabu weighing 350 grams with a value of P2.38 million.
According to the report, IVSU personnel conducted body searching of all visitors of persons deprived of liberty that resulted in the arrest of Zuñiga. The plastic bags of shabu were placed inside a white envelope sealed with tape.
The suspect will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) before the Muntinlupa Prosecutor’s Office.
Macaraeg said the SPD has always intensified its coordination with BuCor and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to thwart illegal drug activities at the NBP and other detention cells.
“The campaign on illegal drugs is our top priority. We will continue our partnerships with the BJMP and BuCor to strengthen our drive to prevent all opportunities for traffickers to continue peddling drugs,” he said.
