SARIAYA, Quezon- A retired Philippine Army (PA) soldier formerly assigned in Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) was shot dead by two unknown assailants along Eco-Tourism Road on Saturday noon, July 9, in this town, a police report said.
Police Lieutenant Colonel William Angway, chief of Sariaya police, identified the victim as Salvador Sales, 50, a businessman and a resident of Barangay Bignay 2 of this town.
An initial report said that at 4:10 p.m. the victim was driving his motorcycle along Eco-Tourism Road at Sitio Kaingin, Barangay Bignay 2 of the said village when two unidentified gunmen shot him several times.
The victim was hit in different parts of the body.
The attackers fled towards Bignay 1 direction, here.
A hot pursuit operation by Sariaya Philippine National Police was conducted and coordination with other nearby police stations had been made.
According to Angway, the investigators are focusing on the possibility that the motive behind the shooting could be the killing of Barangay Bignay 2 councilman Apolinario Rivarez on Tuesday evening in Bignay 2, also this town.
