CEBU CITY – President Ferdinand R. “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. personally leading the Department of Agriculture (DA) bodes well for the agency, a federation of pork producers said Thursday, July 7.

The Pork Producers Federation of the Philippines said “it is the best decision for President Bongbong Marcos to directly handle the Department of Agriculture rather than appointing someone who cannot effect positive change in the industry that would address the current food crisis.”

“I believe President Bongbong Marcos fully understands the problem that our local agriculture is facing in relation to food sufficiency, the reason why he wanted to personally lead DA,” the group’s president, Rolando Tambago, said.

Tambago said Marcos personally leading DA will ensure the agency a bigger budget that would support priority projects for food sufficiency and security amid the looming global food crisis.

“The Pork Producers Federation of the Philippines Inc. will fully support him on whatever plans he has that supports the interests of local producers and consumers,” Tambago said.

Tambago is also the chairman of the Central Visayas Pork Producers Cooperative. He is also the president of Virginia Farms Inc., which owns The Pork Shop, the biggest pork retail chain in Cebu.
