Woman dead, 13 hurt as speeding ‘kuliglig’ turns turtle in Isabela town


ISABELA -- A woman died while 13 others were hurt when a tractor-drawn-trailer or ‘kuliglig’ turned turtle in Brgy. Balasig, Cabagan around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6.

The Police Regional Office 2 (PRO2) identified the victim as Rosalyn Agabin who was declared dead on arrival in the hospital.

Those injured were Erwin Datul, 42, Marcelo Agabin, 57, Bernardo Laggui, 46, Marita Lggui, 67, Cris Mae Mercado,6, Solitaria Gannaban, 51, Rodolfo Agabin, 63, Waldimar Baui, 59, Flordeliza Baui, 51, Rowena Gammad, Leon Patrick Gammad, 11, Ethan Dale Gammad, 4, Monsing Datul, 26, all residents of Brgy. San Bernardo, Cabagan, Isabela.

Cabagan investigators said that kuliglig was north-bound and on its way to Centro, Cabagan.

Because of its high speed, the driver did not have the chance to control the steering handle.

“Lahat po sila ay tumilapon at naipit nang bumaliktad ang nasabing kuliglig,” a resident who witnessed the incident told the police.

The minors were the first to be rescued by the residents while waiting for the rescue team of the government.

All were rushed to the nearest hospital and Rosalyn Agabin was pronounced dead on arrival.

The relatives of the passengers said that the driver did not realize the risk of driving the kuliglig to a high speed.

“Maaring naisip nya na kaya nya ang mabilis takbo ng kuliglig pero di naman nya nakayang ikontrol ng medyo tumagilid at saka bumaliktad,” another resident here said.
