VP Duterte meets Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi


Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, July 6, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on a tour of Southeast Asia to strengthen Beijing’s diplomatic and bilateral ties with countries in the region.

In his stop in the Philippines, Wang met with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo before meeting with Duterte.

Wang visited the country on July 5 and 6 upon the invitation of Manalo.

In a video, Duterte and Wang were seen holding a brief meeting at the Dusit Thani in Makati.

The Vice President was wearing a blue Filipiniana-inspired blouse with a matching inner and pantsuit during the courtesy meeting.

She was heard asking the Chinese diplomat if he will be going around the country, but Wang said he was scheduled to leave tonight for Indonesia.

He will also visit Myanmar, Thailand, and Malaysia.

Duterte thanked the Chinese top envoy for visiting the Philippines. She then invited him to visit her hometown of Davao City.

Duterte’s delegation included Manalo, while Wang was with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian.

Wang also visited Manila in January 2021 and met former President Rodrigo Duterte.
