Cordillera hailed as Best Regional Drug Enforcement Unit of the Year


CAMP DANGWA, Benguet- The Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU) of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera had been honored as the Best Regional Drug Enforcement Unit of the Year.

In its anti-illegal drugs campaign, the PNP regional office’s RPDEU was able to confiscate illegal drugs amounting to P10.5 billion in the Cordillera region.

The total is the amount of illegal drugs confiscated in drug operations conducted over the past six years, from June 2016 to June 2022.

The accomplishment did not go unnoticed.

The drug enforcement agency’s achievement was amply recognized in an awarding ceremony held in conjunction with the celebration of the 5th Founding Anniversary of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) on June 29 at PNP Multi-Goal Center, Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame.

The ceremony’s theme was ‘Police and Citizens Work Together, Fight Illegal Drugs, Towards a Prosperous Community.’

During the occasion, RDEU-Cordillera was recognized as the best Regional Drug Enforcement Unit under the Special Award Category.

The Plaque of Recognition was received by Maj. Roger Ariel Giwagiw, officer-in-charge of RPDEU and Lt. Christopher Tudias, team leader.

The confiscated illegal drugs included shabu, dried marijuana leaves, marijuana seeds, hashish, oil, stalks, seedlings, resin and fruiting tops.

Giwagiw said up to 2,435 buy-busts, search warrant operations and marijuana eradication were conducted in various provinces in the region during the said period.

A total of 2,548 drug personalities, individuals were arrested and charged with violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
