Two top ranking rebels in Calabarzon surrender

CAMP GEN. VICENTE LIM, Calamba City, Laguna -- Two high-ranking members of the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People's Army/National Democratic Front (CPP/NPA/NDF) surrendered to authorities, a report from Police Regional Office 4A said on Tuesday, July 5.

Police Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra, PRO-4A regional director, identified the rebels as ‘Ka Abe/AB/Boylit,’ and ‘Ka Mila/Nina.’

Ka Abe/AB/Boylit was a squad leader of Platun 1 Sentro de Grabidad (SDG) and platoon leader, Guerilla Front Narciso of Sub-Regional Military Area (SRMA) 4A.

On the other hand, ‘Ka Mila/Nina’ was an S4, Platun 1 Sentro de Grabidad SDG and P4, Platun Larangan Yunit Gerilya, Guerilla Front Narciso, SRMA4A of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committe (STRPC).

‘Ka Mila/Nina’ was operating in the provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna and Northern Quezon.

Yarra said that the two rebels who revealed they were a party couple, turned in two hand guns, a hand grenade and subversive documents.

The couple voluntarily surrendered at Camp Hen. Macario Sakay in Los Baños, Laguna on Monday.

The couple voluntarily presented themselves to Force Commander Police Colonel Ledon Monte and to Police Captain Karl Axcel Sta Clara of the RMFB4A after making up their minds that will turn their backs against the communist terrorist group (CTG) and return to the folds of the law.

The rebels’ change of heart was attributed to the intensified tactical operations and community affairs and development activities of RMFB4A in support of Executive Order No. 70 or ELCAC which aims to convince CTG members in the region to lay down their arms and live a peaceful life, Yarra said.

The couple will be receiving an initial assistance and are in the process of documentation for their enrollment to the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program or E-CLIP to avail of the government incentives to help them start anew.

"Our effort bears its fruit of success. Let us continue to give hope and save our affected fellow Filipinos who were deceived by the communist terrorist groups. We noticed that in the past days more rebels opted to surrender due to the increasing awareness of government programs for the rebels,” said Yarra.
