While she recognized all the gains in education under the previous leaderships, Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday, July 4, assured that improving the country’s basic education will be prioritized under her term as the Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary.
During the joint farewell and welcome ceremony, Duterte delivered her first speech as the new DepEd Secretary under the Marcos administration.
Duterte commended Briones for all reforms she initiated in the DepEd, noting that she takes inspiration from the former’s leadership.
“I will also take on the task with the reminder that we shall continue to find ways to improve basic education in terms of access, equity, quality, resiliency, and governance,” Duterte said.
The new DepEd Secretary also noted that under her term, she wishes to “produce learners who can achieve their full potential as individuals who are responsible, skilled, knowledgeable, productive, and determined to achieve their dreams for themselves and for our country.”
To ensure the continuity of programs geared towards achieving quality education, Duterte announced that she tapped Briones as her “consultant.”
