BACOLOD CITY – A nine-year-old girl died after she was hit by a sedan and ran over by a motorized pedicab in Barangay Lag-asan, Bago City, Negros Occidental Saturday, July 2.

Police withheld the name of the minor victim.

Police Corporal Kim Ivern Cornel, traffic investigator of the Bago City Police Station, said the sedan, ridden by a family on its way to a church for the baptism of a four-month-old baby boy, reportedly hit the victim who suddenly crossed the street.

Cornel said the sedan driver, who is the father of the baby, tried to avoid the victim, but it was too late.

The victim was thrown off to the opposite lane, where she was ran over by a motorized pedicab loaded with 15 sacks of feeds, he added.

Cornel said the victim died on the spot. No other injuries were reported.

He said the drivers of the sedan and the motorized pedicab were detained but were released Sunday, July 3, following an initial settlement with the victim's family who asked for financial assistance.
