Muntinlupa officials pay tribute to late congressman, DBM secretary Andaya

The top officials of Muntinlupa paid tribute to former congressman and budget secretary Rolando “Nonoy” Andaya Jr. who passed away on June 30. He was 53.

Andaya’s children, Ranton and Katrina, announced the passing of their dad on Facebook.

“With deep grief and sadness, we announce the untimely death of our father, former member of the House of Representatives, Rolando 'Nonoy' G. Andaya, Jr., this morning, June 30, 2022. We request for your fervent prayers for his eternal repose, and to allow us, his family, to grieve privately our loss,” they wrote.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon said Andaya was a colleague at the House Representatives where the former served for five terms as Muntinlupa’s congressman.

“Nakasama ko si Cong. Nonoy sa Kongreso noong pareho kaming congressman ng aming distrito. Ako sa Muntinlupa, at siya naman sa Camarines Sur (I was with Cong. Nonoy in Congress when we became congressmen of our districts. I for Muntinlupa and him for Camarines Sur),” he wrote on Facebook.

Biazon said Andaya was a big help to Muntinlupa. When Andaya was the secretary of the Department of Budget and Management, according to Biazon, he helped in the funding for the construction of the Muntinlupa Hall of Justice, and additional ambulances for the city.

“Maraming salamat, Cong. Nonoy, sa iyong matapat at mahusay na paglilingkod sa mga Pilipino. (Thank you, Cong. Nonoy, for your honest and excellent service to Filipinos),” he said.

Muntinlupa Rep. Jaime Fresnedi, former mayor, also paid tribute to Andaya.

“Maituturing ding ikalawang tahanan ni Cong. Nonoy ang Muntinlupa dahil dito siya lumaki at nag-aral hanggang makapagtapos ng abogasya. Narito rin ang kanyang bahay kapag wala siya sa kanyang distrito sa Camarines Sur. (Muntinlupa can be considered as Cong. Nonoy’s second home because this was where he grew up and studied until he finished law. His house is also here when he was not in his district of Camarines Sur),” said Fresnedi.

Vice Mayor Artemio Simundac said, “The members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Muntinlupa and Muntinlupenos thank him for his contribution in realizing our Hall of Justice and for the donation of additional ambulances for our city. We salute your service to the Filipinos.”
