It’s a timeless ensemble
If there is a must-watch list of fashion films, the 2006 movie “The Devil Wears Prada” is definitely among the many that would top it. It has been more than a decade since it graced the cinema and yet people are still talking about it.
Bringing the movie to life was Anne Hathaway who portrayed Andy Sachs, an aspiring journalist who ended up working at Runway fashion magazine under its editor-in-chief Miranda Priestley, played by actress Meryl Streep. Apart from its depiction of the fashion media industry, the film is also lauded for its chic costumes created by stylist Patricia Field.
In today’s “The Devil Wears Prada” update, Anne revealed to Interview Magazine her favorite look in the movie. Designer Michael Kors asked her the question: “Which outfit that you wore in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was more Anne than Andy?”
First, the 39-year-old actress shared that her personal style was influenced by working with Patricia. Later on, she said that her favorite look was the ensemble Andy wore to James Hoult's (Daniel Sunjata) party, a “velvet Chanel coat that went to the knees, and then the miniskirt and the stockings and the slouched boots.”
Through an Instagram post, Anne reminisced on the movie’s amazing style and magic, that “somehow keep serving 16 years later.”
“Looking back on photos of this beloved film that shaped the lives and careers of so many—mine included—I am struck by the fact that the young female characters in this movie built their lives and careers in a country that honored their right to have a choice over their own reproductive health.” Anne wrote in a caption, that also tackled the US abortion debate.
Since the movie premiered, Anne has also become a muse for many fashion designers and labels. Among her recent style moments were her red carpet sightings at the Cannes Film Festival 2022 and her latest campaign with Italian jeweler Bulgari.
