It seems like Onic Philippines isn’t going anywhere as far as the MPL Philippines is concerned.
Questions were raised regarding the team’s future after it released key personalities, including star jungler Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol and head coach Denver “Yeb” Miranda who both played huge contributions to their runner-up campaigns in the MPL PH Season 8 and M3 World Championships.
Recent tweets from its remaining members further fueled the rumors, some even hinting at the possibility of the Indonesia-based esports organization ceasing operation in the country. Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy, Gerald “Dlarskie” Trinchera, Jaylord “Hatred” Gonzales, Marky “Markyyy” Carpacio and Nowee “Ryota” Macasa have all took to social media and expressed their intentions of signing for a new team.
However, according to MPL PH, teams are not allowed to pull out as part of their agreement when they bought a slot in Season 8 during the league's transition to a franchise model.
Moreover, teams who wish to withdraw their membership cannot sell or transfer the slots to another esports organization.
“Teams commit to a certain time frame of engagement with the MPL PH league to help ensure stability and growth of stakeholders. After this period has passed, they are free to evaluate if it is in their best interest to remain in the league,” the MPL PH representative told Manila Bulletin.
“If a team decides to discontinue being part of the league, they cannot sell or transfer their slot,” he added.
With that, iOnic PH, one of the eight teams who bought a slot in the MPL, cannot sell or transfer their slot, more so pull out from the league. Its recent player departures, and the rumored release of the remaining members, are part of the team’s revamp for the upcoming season.
The MPL PH also stressed that it is in constant communication with team owners regarding such matters.
“The MPL-PH committee constantly communicates with the franchise owners/members to make sure that we come to a conclusion that benefits all parties involved.”
