Cagayan de Oro inaugurates new city hospital

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY —- The local government here inaugurated the new Cagayan de Oro City Hospital situated in Barangay Lumbia on Monday afternoon, June 27.

The 25-bed capacity Cagayan de Oro City Hospital-Lumbia (Infirmary Facility) is one of the major milestone projects of outgoing city mayor Oscar Moreno in bringing the healthcare services closer to the people.

In her opening message, Dr. Liova de Guia, the City Hospital-Lumbia chief, said the hospital would not just cater the city residents in the hinterland areas, but also some municipalities in Bukidnon province.

It would also help decongest the JR Borja General Hospital (JRBGH) which is also being managed by the local government unit (LGU) of Cagayan de Oro.

Aside from providing primary healthcare services, de Guia said the new hospital would also provide job opportunities both medical and non-medical, and it could also support the city’s economic growth by providing opportunities to the small enterprises that are willing to establish their businesses outside the hospital.

“As we have observed, before, there were no establishments there in front . But now, look at it, there are already many appearing,” de Guia said in vernacular.

Dr. Ellenietta Gamolo, the assistant director of Department of Health Northern Mindanao (DOH-10), on the other hand, has assured that it would not go to waste the project of the outgoing mayor with the strong collaboration of the city government and DOH-10.

During his message, Moreno brought up a commentary he received from a certain high medical official as to the city government’s urgency in doing the turnover of the new city hospital in Lumbia.

Moreno responded and stressed the importance of the said turnover ceremony in order for the new facility to be all set before incoming city mayor Rolando Uy sits.

“The remaining days that we have, as many as we can do, we will do. So that if Mayor Klarex would take over the office, everything is all set. Because it is not easy to manage a big city. I know that,” Moreno said.

As of this writing, the city government has already been preparing the necessary documents to get the License to Operate (LTO) of the new city hospital.
