The Alliance for the Family Foundation Philippines, Inc. (ALFI) on Tuesday, June 28, described the decision of the US Supreme Court on abortion rights as "historic."
"ALFI joins the prolife movement around the world in expressing gratitude to the U.S. court for this landmark decision," the group said in a statement.
"It is without doubt a historic ruling, an important victory for life, because abortion is not and cannot be a right--every abortion deliberately takes the life of an innocent human being. It is by nature a crime," ALFI added.
An official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Episcopal Office on Women also welcomed the ruling.
“It was indeed good news with the decision of the US Supreme Court to ban abortion. (It's) a decision enlightened by the Holy Spirit," Borongan Bishop Crispin Varquez, chairman of the said office, told Radio Veritas.
He said the decision was also timely as Rome celebrated the World Meeting of Families.
Last week, the US Supreme Court had overturned Roe v. Wade ruling, thereby scrapping the federal constitutional right to an abortion.
