Robredo marks last episode of radio show; ‘It was a good run’

With only five days remaining in her term, outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday, June 26, waxed a bit nostalgic as she recalled her six-year stint leading up to the last episode of her weekly radio show.

Robredo attended the final episode of her Sunday radio show, “Biserbisyong Leni”, with veteran broadcaster Ely Saludar as she nears the end of her term at noon time on June 30.

“Last episode of Biserbisyong Leni today. It was a good run. We never expected to last for 5 years and we did!! Thank you, Ka Ely and RMN,” she posted on Facebook, sharing also some photos of when she and Saludar had their pictorial for the pub mats.

Looking back at her experience as vice president, Robredo said that her office was able to help a lot of communities despite the “very limited capacities.”

One of those that helped her was RMN and Saludar, who had been in tandem with her since 2017 when they launched the radio program that aired over RMN-DZXL 558.

She and Saludar exchanged their thank-yous after spending time on air for five years, although the Vice President joked that the radio man had no choice but to see her because she’ll be forcing him to volunteer for Angat Buhay NGO.

“Meron tayong mga masugid na tagapakinig na talagang (We have avid listeners who are really) every Sunday kasama natin. Kaya maraming salamat sa pagsama ninyo (are with us. So thank you very much for being with us),” Robredo said.

She also thanked RMN president and CEO Eric Canoy for giving space in the airwaves for her radio program.

“Nagsimula tayo (We started) Mother’s Day of 2017. Mahaba din, so ma-miss ko kayo (It’s been long, too, I will miss you),” she added.

However, she hinted that there might be a future partnership between her and the radio network once she’s no longer a vice president.

Saludar returned the compliment to Robredo.

“Ma’am, malaking karangalan po sa akin na makatambal po sa palatuntunan sa radyo ang Bise Presidente ng Republika ng Pilipinas. At maraming salamat din sa ating mga listeners (Ma’am, it was a huge honor for me to be in tandem in this radio program with the vice president of the Republic of the Philippines. And thank you very much to our listeners),” he said.

Aside from the RMN staff, Robredo also mentioned that she would miss her security detail, who she spent time with on Saturday, June 25.

In an Instagram story, the outgoing Vice President posted a photo of her security team, captioning it with: “The best team one could ever hope for.”

“In 5 days, we will each go our separate ways. Thank you for securing our family in the past 6 years,” she wrote.

But not all are goodbyes for Robredo as she told Saludar that many of her staff at the OVP and Angat Buhay will join her new initiative.

“Pero marami kasi talaga, Ka Ely, katrabaho ko pa din kasi parang continuation lang naman ito. Ang kaibahan lang (But many, Ka Ely, I will still be working because this is just like a continuation. The only difference is that it’ll be), out of government na. Pero ‘yung gagawin, pareho pa rin (But what we’re going to do is still the same),” she said.
