The #MarcosCabinet: Karlo Nograles, CSC chairman


Lawyer and ad interim Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Karlo Nograles has been selected to reprise his CSC post by President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Nograles, 45, took office as CSC chair ad interim last March 4, 2022 under the outgoing Duterte administration.

From Nov. 5, 2018 up until March 7, 2022, he served as President Duterte's Cabinet Secretary.

He also served as acting presidential spokesperson from Nov. 15, 2021, up until March 7, 2022 and also as spokesperson to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) from March 16, 2020 to April 13, 2020; and then again from Nov. 17, 2021 until March 7, 2022.

The Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger was created on Jan. 10, 2020. Nograles chaired it from Jan. 11, 2020 until March 7, 2022.

Nograles is also a former congressman, serving as Davao City’s 1st district representative from 2010 to 2018 during the 15th, 16th, and 17th Congresses.

His father, Prospero Nograles, served as Speaker of the House from 2008 to 2010. and also held the same congressional district as his son from 1989 to 1992, 1995 to 1998, and finally from 2001 to 2010.

Nograles graduated from Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) in 1997 with Bachelor of Science degree in Management Engineering. He earned his Law degree from Ateneo Law School in 2003.

Nograles will continue his duties leading the CSC, which oversees the national government’s services, policies, and programs for civil service employees.
