Outstanding Manilans, including Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, were recognized for their contributions to the city on Thursday, June 23, at the Metropolitan Theater.
The awarding ceremony was held on the eve of the city's 451st founding anniversary on Friday, June 24.
The Manila City Council, led by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, handed over to Domagoso a copy of Resolution No. 101, Series of 2022, “professing profound gratitude to his unparalleled service and dedication.”
The resolution names him a “true, blue Manileño” whose advocacies for Manila were delivered through his housing, education, and health projects, as well as modernization and “Bilis Kilos” initiatives.
"I'm really grateful and honored with the recognition that the city council gave me tonight. Hindi ko magagawa ang lahat ng ating nagawa para sa Lungsod ng Maynila kung wala kayo (I would not have done what I did for our city if not for all of you)," Domagoso said.
The prestigious Gat Andres Bonifacio Award, the highest accolade that the Manila local government can give to any citizen of the city, was given to world-renowned glass sculptor, Architect Ramon Orlina.
The Rajah Sulayman Award was given to Medical Officer Dr. Edgar N. Santos II for his tireless efforts in the health sector.
The Outstanding Manilan for Sports was awarded to Olympic Pole Vaulter Ernest John (EJ) Obiena.
News anchor Alejandro “Kim” Atienza and singer-actress Angeline Quinto received the awards for the Mass Media, and Entertainment categories, respectively.
Other Outstanding Manilan winners in other categories are the following:
- Barangay Affairs: Barangay Chairman Michi Regalado-Castro of Barangay 841, Zone 92 in District 6.
- Education: Trinidad R. Galang, the principal of Padre Burgos Elementary School
- Culture and the Arts: Barbara Gordon - De los Reyes, the owner of Barbara's Heritage Restaurant.
- Judiciary: Hon. Sheryll Dolendo - Tulabing, the presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Manila Branch 28.
- Prosecution Service: Roberto Damian A. Morigo, the senior city assistant prosecutor,
- Law Enforcement: Lt. Col. Rosalino Pabalan Ibay Jr., the Chief of the Special Mayor's Reaction Team.
- Public Health: Dr. Nerissa C. Sescon, Medical Specialist III from the Sta. Ana Hospital
- Socio-Civic: Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.
It also awarded business tax payers for their support to the city as well as their essential citywide projects.
The top 10 business tax payers for 2021 include: (1) Manila Electric Company (Meralco), (2) International Container Terminal Services Inc., (3) Mercury Drug Corporation, (4) Asian Terminals Incorporated, (5) Puregold Price Club Inc., (6) Manila North Harbor Port Inc., (7) Unilever Philippines Inc., (8) Golden Arches Development Corporation, (9) Philippine-Chinese Charitable Association Inc. wnd (10) Land Bank of the Philippines.
The top 10 real property tax payers of 2021 were (1) Asian Terminals Incorporated, (2), Manila North Harbor Port Inc., (3) Megaworld Corporation, (4) Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, (5) Unilever Philippines Inc., (6) SM Prime Holdings Inc., (7) International Container Terminal Services Inc., (8) Petron Corporation, (9) Robinsons Land Corporation, and (10) Manila Electric Company (Meralco).
"Sila ay nagbigay ng dahilan upang maiangat ang ating lahi. Ang mga huwarang Manileño, mga hinahangaan na Pilipino (They helped in uplifting our nation. Our exemplary Manileños, the pride of the Filipino)," Domagoso said.
