BACOLOD CITY – A 17-year-old boy was shot dead by a 16-year-old boy in Barangay Singcang-Airport here Wednesday, June 22, the 10th shooting incident reported this month and the second this week in this city.

Police withheld the names of the victim and the suspect for being minors.

Police Major Joery Puerto, head of Police Station 8, said the victim was reportedly asked by the suspect to buy solvent that night.

However, the victim failed to give the solvent to the suspect when they met in front of a shopping mall. A heated argument between them ensued, leading to a fistfight.

Puerto said the suspect went to his friend’s house nearby to borrow a pen gun, an improvised firearm.

The suspect returned and another spat erupted between the suspect and the victim until the suspect shot the victim, Puerto said. The victim sustained a bullet wound in the stomach and later died in a hospital here.

Puerto said the suspect, a resident of Bago City, Negros Occidental, is at large.

Puerto said the victim and the suspect were among the “Rugby boys” (gang of street children addicted to contact cement “Rugby”) loitering in the area.

Policemen have warned them many times but they continue to violate the curfew hours for minors.
