The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday, June 23, welcomed the “timely issuance” of Executive Order No. 174 titled Establishing the Expanded Career Progression System for Public School Teachers.
DepEd said that the EO will officially create new position titles namely Teacher IV, Teacher V, Teacher VI, Teacher VII, and Master Teacher V, and promote professional development and career advancement among public school teachers.
The agency, which is also celebrating its 124th founding anniversary, said it is “jubilant” about the issuance of the EO. DepEd also expressed gratitude to President Duterte for this “monumental policy: that will expand the classroom teaching career line and provide merit-based career progression opportunities.
DepEd said that this major development in the basic education landscape in the country “would not have been possible without the dedication and leadership” of outgoing Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones who “championed the expanded teacher career progression initiative at the Cabinet and at every step of the process.”
Meanwhile, DepEd said that it will work with the Civil Service Commission (CSC), the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in formulating the rules and regulations of the EO.
“Likewise, we shall continue to develop programs to ensure that our teachers are consistently motivated in providing quality education to our Filipino learners,” DepEd added.
