The municipal government of Angono, Rizal has saved roughly 25 percent in its monthly electric bill due to the solar energy which it has been using since March.
The office of Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon revealed that the town government has been saving around P40,000 or 25 percent of its total monthly electric bill every month since April when it adopted the hybrid sources of energy -- solar and the electricity sourced from Manila Electric Company (Meralco).
Municipal Administrator Allan Maniaol said the Meralco bills that correspond to electricity consumption for the last three months have gone down since the municipal government installed solar panels on top of the municipal hall in March.
Maniaol said the local government has been spending an average of P200,000 to P240,000 a month on electricity bills in the past few months prior to using the solar energy.
“Yes, we’ve been saving roughly 25% since April and we’re expecting up to 35% slash in the next few months,” said Maniaol.
He added that the municipal government intends to expand the use of the hybrid power system in its satellite offices in the barangays.
Maniaol said that with the savings from the town government’s electric bills, Mayor Calderon may seek the local council’s approval for the re-alignment of the amount saved for appropriation to other programs designed to alleviate the condition of the marginalized sectors in the municipality.
