BAGUIO CITY – An intensified house-to-house search and destroy activity for possible mosquito breeding grounds will be conducted here for four consecutive Thursdays starting June 23.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong here called on the academe, non-government organizations, the business community, and private individuals to join the campaign dubbed “Denguerra” (war against dengue).
Interested groups and individuals may coordinate with their barangay officials, City Health Services Office (HSO) head Dr. Rowena Galpo said.
According to City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (CESU) head Dr. Donna Tubera-Panes, the best time to catch the mosquito causing dengue is in its egg stage.
Control should be done early as a mosquito in its four-week lifespan produces 40 reproductive pairs in seven days and the number could multiply up to thousands and spread more dengue cases in just a few days, if not controlled, Panes said.
The search and destroy activity was agreed upon in a meeting Monday, June 20, at the City Hall by the reconstituted Baguio City Anti-Dengue Committee (BCADC) headed by Magalong and attended by city department heads and other city officials and concerned agencies.
