Southbound lane of EDSA-Timog flyover to be closed starting June 25 for 30-day repair

The southbound lane of the EDSA-Timog Flyover will be closed for 30 days starting June 25 to give way to repair following the discovery of cracks in the area, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Tuesday, June 21.

MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes said the repair includes reconstruction of the damaged bridge diaphragm and a construction of a new bridge deck slab of the flyover.

Workers from the DPWH started repairs on the 30 meter portion of the EDSA-TImog Flyover, June 21, 2022 at Quezon City. The flyover, particularly on the southbound, will undergo repair due to potholes and cracks found by inspectors. Based on the assessment of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the construction of the new bridge deck slab is around 30 meters long.

“Total closure of the bridge has to be implemented considering that the construction works have to be done without any vibration movement. Repairs will be done manually without heavy equipment,” said Artes, adding that it would be closed at starting 6 a.m. on Saturday.

“We are advising the public to plan their trips and take alternate routes as the DPWH repairs the flyover," he added.

Artes inspected the site with DPWH-Quezon City Second District Engr. Eduardo Santos.

Earlier, motorists reported cracks at the flyover which prompted DPWH engineers to inspect the site.

With the road closure, the MMDA has provided traffic rerouting for the affected motorists.

Ahead of the closure, Artes said they are intensifying the clearing operations on Mabuhay lanes to ensure that alternate routes are passable and obstruction-free.

Around 140,000 vehicles passing through the flyover daily will be affected by the closure.
