NAIA operations unhampered despite runway accident involving Saudi Airlines

Operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) remain unhampered despite an incident involving Saudi Airlines plane that veered off the runway, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Tuesday, June 21.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eddie Monreal said that as of midnight Tuesday, the aircraft has been removed from the remote parking area.

The flight carried a total 420 passengers and crew who were all safe and unhurt. The airline also offered hotel accommodation to a total of 356 passengers.

The plane landed at Runway 06-24 at 1:47 p.m. but when its six right landing gears veered off the pavement at the end portion of Taxiway Charlie onto the grassy portion while en route tits parking bay in NAIA Terminal 1.

This caused the wheels to get stuck in the process.

Following the incident, the Manila International Airport Authority Fire and Rescue Division immediately responded to an emergency call of a Saudia Airlines flight after landing.
