Turning pro? Laure undecided on future

Eya Laure remains undecided on her future with University of Santo Tomas after leading the squad to a fourth-place finish in the UAAP Season 84 women's volleyball tournament.

The Golden Tigresses, who finished the elimination round at No. 3, fell short in the first stage of the stepladder and absorbed a straight set defeat at the hands of the Ateneo Blue Eagles last June 14.

"Sa ngayon, gusto ko muna mag-isip," said Laure, the league's top scorer. "Pero siyempre pag-iispan ko 'yan nang mabuti kasi hindi namna madaling iwan na lang ang UST nang ganon-ganon lang.

"Sa ngayon wala pa talaga akong masasagot diyan. Magt-training, magpapalakas, magre-recover from this season," added the former Rookie of the Year.

Laure, 23, actually has three more playing years in the UAAP since stepping up in the collegiate scene in Season 81, where she won the ROTY honor.

With the postponement of the 82nd season, Laure easily became one of the veterans and team captain of the Tigresses.

The multi-awarded Tigress emerged as the league's top scorer this season after the elimination round with 272 points built on 244 spikes, 17 blocks and 11 service aces.

As Laure decides on the next step in her career, one of her concerns is nursing a recurring injury though she did not disclose further details.

"Kasi 'yong injury, madami naman na rin nakakahalata. Pero siyempre, ayun pa din talaga. Kailangan ko mag-rehab, mag-strengthening and mas magpalakas pa ng katawan," added the UST standout.

Should she turn pro though, the Premier Volleyball League would be the top choice for her with the Chery Tiggo Crossovers joining the league in 2021, the same year that the league earned its professional status.

The Crossovers, led by sisters Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Jaja Santiago, became the country's first volleyball champion in a fully-professional league after ruling the 2021 PVL Open Conference.
